Fear not, eating healthy doesn’t have to be a chore. It doesn’t have to be boring, and you don’t have to deprive yourself of the foods you love to eat. It’s more about bringing healthy choices into your eating lifestyle. You may be quite surprised when you start becoming aware of what you’re eating and how you feel after you eat.
Do you often walk away from the table and say “Oh ~ am I stuffed!” or “I ate too much!” Perhaps you don’t say anything at all, but you leave the table feeling ill. Not a great feeling ~ I know!
This can all change by making simple, yet mindful modifications to not only what you eat, but how you eat. How and what you eat, plays a significant role in your mental, emotional and physical well-being.
Here are a few modifications to consider on “how” you eat:
1. Watch your meal portions. No need to measure, just eat enough to where your feel satisfied, not full. Listen to your body.
2. Incorporate more color into your meals. Yes ~ meaning more vegetables, foods from the earth. Green, Red, Yellow, Orange, and Purple. It’s not only appealing to the eye but can taste good as well.
3. Limit your refined sugar and table salt intake.
4. Limit processed foods, (Trans fats).
5. Drink plenty of water.
6. Eat slowly… take your time and chew your food well.
7. Eat healthy snacks throughout the day.
8. Limit wheat flour. (read your labels)
These are just a few suggestions to help get you started. Take a look at the foods you eat, before you eat them. Ask yourself. “How am I going to feel after I eat this?” “Is this good for my body?” If the answer is “yes and you are going to feel good” ~ then go for it, and enjoy. If the answer is “no” ~ then make another choice, and if you still choose to eat whatever it may be (this guilty pleasure) eat a very small portion, so you don’t feel deprived, but you are satisfied. It’s about learning to modify your eating habits and becoming mindful of what you put into your body.
Eating healthy has so many benefits, as we will discuss in more detail next week. Love your body ~ it’s the only one you have!
