Belief is a mental representation or expression of your personal opinion. And it’s by these beliefs that influence the way we live our lives. They can lead you to the choices you make both in your personal and professional life. Where do these beliefs come from? Sometimes they are cultural, or religious based. Some were instilled in you by your elders or simply acquired at a very early age. And then there are those beliefs that you’ve created in your mind, based on your own illusions or thoughts of how things should be. But none are written in stone. They can be maintained, modified or relinquished at any time.
Regardless of where your beliefs come from, they belong to you. Are you able to identify them? Do your beliefs control you or do you control your beliefs? They can be the inspirational force that leads you to wonderful possibilities and opportunities in your life. The Encyclopedia Britannica, Inc. states; “belief is arguably the most powerful and potent force in human behavior”.
By identifying, understanding and evaluating the nature of your core beliefs, you can facilitate change in your life’s patterns and choices. Many of your beliefs may be bundled together, and you may not be able to change them until you start breaking them apart. You can then decide whether they are assumptions or facts of life. Each may not necessarily need a reason behind them, just your perception. It’s all about how you define each belief.
The manifestation of your beliefs is who you are. They affect all that you do, as well as your relationships with others. They have the power to pull you back, or they can be like a magnet drawing you to amazing opportunities, creating a new reality. The key is to rethink and go beyond your thoughts. You decide how your beliefs best serve your well-being or if they are holding you back from living the life you aspire to live. Let your core beliefs be the magnet for exciting, new opportunities.
Remember that belief precedes knowledge. Be mindful and don’t ignore any facts that may bring light to your existing or new beliefs. It may just bring about a change in your perception.
“Your beliefs become your thoughts, Your thoughts become your words,
Your words become your actions, Your actions become your habits,
Your habits become your values, Your values become your destiny.”
― Mahatma Gandhi
