Creating Balance For Your Mind, Body and Soul

The mind, body and soul are all connected and when balanced properly, they keep your energy flowing within. You’ve been given this one body while living here on this earth. It’s your responsibility to maintain a healthy balance.

Let me break this down simply for you. The soul gives you your life force. Your body is the shell in which you live. Your mind is what connects the body and soul. Each thrives for nourishment. When all are in balance, you know that you’re physically and mentally aligned. You have the energy to achieve positive results in any of life’s challenges that come in your direction.

This week I would like to introduce you to Melanie Rojas, who I have had the pleasure of knowing for many years. I have seen her strive and overcome many challenges of her own that has turned her into the amazing woman she is today. As a certified Health Coach, she specializes in weight loss and athletic training. She works with girls and women who have suffered from low self-esteem, eating disorders, body dysmorphic and emotional eating. She has provided them with the knowledge and skills to transform their bodies inside and out. It’s that balance she helps to create for her clients. I have invited her to write this week’s blog on Creating Balance for your Mind, Body and Soul.

I proudly introduce you to Melanie Rojas:

What if I told you that all that we consider as “nutrition” in this day and age is truthfully just a secondary source of energy?
Close your eyes and think back to a time when you were involved in an exciting project, deeply in love or passionate about a relationship.
I’m willing to bet life was so exciting that you felt almost as if you were floating on air. I can guarantee that everything about your surroundings was more vivid, and that those feelings of exhilaration were enough to sustain you. You possibly even forgot about food due to being high on life.

When you believe in what you are doing and feel confident and stimulated, time stops and the outside world fades away. The fun, the excitement and love of daily life has the power to feed us so that food becomes secondary.

Now think of a moment in your life when you felt an overwhelming sense of sadness, when your self- esteem was low, you felt lost and you were “starving” for happiness and fulfillment of some sort. No amount of food, no matter how much you ate, could truly satisfy you.
Elements such as a meaningful spiritual practice, an inspiring career, honest open relationships and finally, regular and enjoyable physical activity, all constitute as our primary source of energy.
The more we receive from our primary source, the less we depend upon our secondary source. Harmony and balance between the two is what leads to a healthy future.

If you are searching for the fountain of youth, which seem to be the direction most people are headed these days, no need to look further than your nearest park, gym or exercise class.
Want to feel better? Look younger? Then get your body moving.

Not only does regular activity strengthen your muscles and improve heart and lung function, but it can also reduce your risk of major diseases, stimulate the growth of brain cells, adding years to your life and LIFE to your years.

If given the opportunity to complete this sentence, what would you say?
“In the area of physical activity, what’s going on for me is….”

Truth is, you can eat all the healthy food you want, but if you do not move your body, the food and nutrients are not going to be effectively utilized. Your body needs movement. In fact, it craves it. But are you aware of that?

Studies show that just 30 minutes of physical activity every other day is all that is required to reap big benefits and is important for improved health, longevity and reduced risk of disease.
Not to mention it’s the best natural mood enhancer and anti-depressant.

Stress, hard work and too much thinking creates tension in the body, which can lead to chronic aches, tightness & even digestive issues, all of which are not enjoyable to experience.

Exercise is an ideal way of releasing a buildup of physical tension.
Developing a regular exercise program to suit your particular body type and lifestyle will bring forth numerous rewards.

Most people dread the thought of exercise for fear of it being too challenging. Many experience feelings of failure and defeat and feel excessively overwhelmed before they even begin. Exercise doesn’t have to be complicated, nor does it have to be intense.

The secret to getting active and over that hump of dreading your workouts is to find the types of activities you enjoy most and begin to incorporate and build them into your life. It should be fun and a positive addition to your life rather than negative and torturous.

How do you know what type of exercise works best for you?
Think about what you loved to do as a child. This is always a great place to start.
Be in tune with your body, listen to what it is telling you and always honor it.

If you feel weak and unfocused, try a vigorous exercise that will make you feel stable and powerful. If you feel tight and tense, try something to increase lightness and flexibility. The important thing to remember is that physical activity can truly take the most simple & modest forms, like taking the stairs instead of the elevator whenever possible. It can be taking your dog for a walk, your children to the park, or getting off the subway or bus one stop earlier and walking to your destination.

At the end of the day, a 30-minute brisk walk every other day is better than a panicked, unfocused gym session once a month. Little changes, day by day, will add up to great big changes.

Have fun experimenting and creating a routine YOU can nourish yourself with on a daily basis.
Get excited about impacting your life and future and get that body moving!
