Stop Playing Victim

There are events in our lives that can cause us to “Play Victim”. Sometimes we think that it empowers us, and that we are able to manipulate someone or a situation. The fact is, that it’s just the opposite. When you act or behave like you have been victimized, you are actually the oppressor. It’s a trap easily fallen into and most often self inflicted. It’s called “A Pity Party for One”. It hurts others. It’s foundation is bitterness; which is like mental poison.

You may ask how can it hurt others? Well, it’s a selfish act. It can suppress the feelings of others who really need a sympathetic ear. Someone to listen and understand what they may be going through. It’s not always about you!
How different would your life be if you stopped validating those feelings of being a victim? You might start to like how you feel. You can become the one who helps a real victim.

So, how do you stop? It’s a process. It’s a habit that takes practice to change. It starts by looking within and realizing what’s caused you to feel this way to begin with. Who is in charge of your soul? Perhaps you need to forgive someone who hurt you. That’s a sign of strength, and that alone can give you internal power, therefore not needing to play victim. Once you learn to forgive, you can move away from the situation that hurt you. “Exit Pity Party”.

You take control of your own life. You choose where you want to be and who you want to spend your time with. You are in charge of your soul. You own your life. Learn to assume responsibility for everything in your life. You don’t need to blame others. When you are faced with obstacles or challenges, you do something about it. Having a negative outlook on everything only creates more drama, and ultimately there you are.. always the victim. So start by setting mini goals or quests for yourself. One day at a time, one event at a time. Think before you act on a situation. This helps you develop a healthier self-image and a better outlook on life in general. Learn to grow from negative situations and don’t waste the message. Have the wisdom to turn a bad situation into power and stop getting stuck in the blame game.

Jill, A very interesting topic. It will make me think twice when discussing challenges in my life. Making sure I listen to the person I’m talking to.
